Pop-up Free Food *Tasting* in Napanoch Saturday

Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work & Play of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County (CCEUC) announces a free and fabulous Food Tasting to be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 12 pm to 2:30 pm at our newest Healthy Neighborhood Store, Peters Market, located at 7700 Route 209 in Napanoch.

Enjoy fresh and zippy flavors for free at a *tasting* of kale salad and mixed green salad at Peters Market.  All the ingredients to prepare these tantalizing treats can be purchased at Peters Market. Recipe cards in Spanish and English will be available so you can learn to prepare these at home.

*The Community Food Tastings are hosted by the “Healthy Neighborhood Stores Project” and are FREE and open to the public.  The Tastings offer food samplings to shoppers of easy-to-make, nutritious meals, snacks and beverages. All samplings are made with items that can be purchased at each market. Shoppers at each location receive free bi-lingual Spanish / English recipe cards and take part in a brief survey regarding food purchasing, cooking choices and barriers to the purchase of healthy foods.*

The Healthy Neighborhood Stores Project seeks to promote access to healthier foods in participating markets in food desert areas, and in so doing, strives to prevent obesity and type 2 diabetes.  Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work & Play is funded by the NY State Department of Health.  This event is sponsored by CCEUC’s Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work and Play.

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
