Error: Embedded data could not be displayed.

"There are already entirely too many podcasts. For every engrossing show on iTunes there are another sixty bordering on torturous." ~ Kevin Dupzyk

Have YOU been thinking of podcasting? I have, but if and when I put out a podcast or two, I'll be doing it with minimal effort, possibly in conjunction with my TV show. Meantime, I have found some interesting articles to help us get our podcasts up and (hopefully) running! Click the image above or any of the highlighted links!

Best Post Times To Tweet, Facebook, Instagram

Instagram

Q. When's the best day and time to post on social media?

A. No one really knows for sure. There are studies and analyses and studies and reports and studies... but which are most accurate?

Personally, I get the biggest bang for my tweet between 0500 and 0900 New York time. Weekend afternoons are great. Friday nights between 9 and Midnight also. I think the "niche" factor plays a big role, and those niches that appeal to people who are at work or school during the day will naturally see more action between, say, 9 to 5.

A different niche might be embraced by those workers who are not permitted or just don't have the time or access to be online during that 9-5 period. They're on during the bus or train commute, anywhere from 4:30-8pm.

So take the numbers in my Instagram chart with a grain of salt. Or two.

Maxthon Browser Not

I was searching desperately for answers as to why, no matter what I try, my Maxthon browser seems incapable of displaying certain webpages. [see image] Unlike firefox, you can google queries until you turn blue and not find answers.

The trouble began with twitter. I wasn't able to correctly view or interact with twitter in either offered "browswer mode." Sometimes if I clear the cache twitter will render correctly for a single session. But if I change websites then return to twitter, it's screwed up again.

Of late I have also had trouble accessing certain wordpress sites - same result - and blogspot, where a lot of images won't render. The problem only affects my desktop Maxthon. An older version that I have on my "internet protected" laptop*** works 100% fine.

Regular and now-and-then readers already know how I have cloudproofed and auto-updateproofed my lappie. It's an old Thinkpad that is becoming more valuable to me as days go by. Here are a few tests you can perform and tips you can apply to YOUR personal machines!

*** I acquired a Lenovo ThinkPad a year ago this summer and have dedicated the laptop to my personal media projects. I do a lot with video and audio via Skype and SoundCloud, as well as projects for my employer via Adobe Audition. I outfitted the T42 with a camera purchased for a dollar at a garage sale: it’s become a workhorse for me.

Dylan Storm Roof Facebook Screen Shots & MySpace Video

Added June 25 ::: How a 16-year-old tricked the New York Times into reporting that Dylann Roof blogged about “My Little Pony”.

"Anonymous Coward" found his Facebook page and grabbed screenshots of it before it went down: (It's safe to click "LET ME IN" to view the pages)

Interestingly, he added this Facebook friend:

These are the people that he followed:

It appears that he had an awful lot of black friends on Facebook for someone who supposedly hates blacks. It looks like it could be 1/3 to 1/2 of them are black.

He is from Columbia, South Carolina, according to his Facebook page. He went to White Knoll High School in Lexington, South Carolina.

His Facebook page appears to have been created in 2015, possibly on May 21, 2015, when he uploaded the only photo on it.

Racist manifesto allegedly written by Charleston murder suspect

Justification for the murderous hatred of “the other” follows a painfully familiar pattern. There is a question, answered by propaganda, followed by acceptance from a larger movement and, finally, hubris and a sense of superiority that leads some to bloody reckoning. A manifesto discovered online Saturday, allegedly written by Dylann Storm Roof, charged with murdering nine…

FREE FISHING DAYS IN NEW YORK STATE JUNE 27-28

New York State residents and visitors may fish for free without a fishing license in any of the state’s 7,500 lakes and ponds and 50,000 miles of rivers and streams during the weekend of June 27-28. Saltwater anglers may also fish in marine waters for migratory marine fish species without enrolling in the Recreational Marine Fishing Registry.

In addition to the June free fishing weekend, legislation signed by Governor Cuomo now allows for an increase in the number of authorized yearly statewide free fishing days. This year, Veteran’s Day, November 11, has also been designated as a free fishing day.

“New York has some of the best fishing in the nation, and we’re making it easier than ever for people to come out and see all this state has to offer,” Governor Cuomo said. “These free fishing days are the perfect opportunity to cast a line and take in the great outdoors, and I encourage everyone to explore New York’s lakes and waterways this summer.”

Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Joe Martens said, “There’s really no better time to take someone fishing. The weather is warm, the fish are usually cooperative and beginners can give the sport a try while exploring some of our state’s great outdoor resources.”

Those interested in learning more about the sport of fishing are encouraged to attend one of 40 free fishing events held during throughout the summer. A list of these clinics can be found on the Department of Environmental Conservation’s website at www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/27123.html. The public should check back regularly as the list is updated with new events as they are received.

Anglers are reminded that although the requirement for a license and enrolling in the Recreational Marine Fishing Registry has been waived during free fishing weekend, all other regulations remain in effect.

Where to Fish
Anglers searching for places to fish should visit the Department of Environmental Conservation's fishing page at
http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/fishing.html. An interactive map of public fishing locations can also be found on the website.

Catholic Climate Change

Mixing religion with politics is one thing. Mixing religion with science is another.

The Pope’s landmark Encyclical on global stewardship was leaked ahead of schedule and states that the major contributor to global climate change is human activity.

The Holy See calls for radical changes to the world's political and economic systems to address this issue plus many more concerning inequality and sustainability.

Francis strongly emphasizes that the pervasive belief that God gave humans
power of dominion over the Earth to the point that we can destroy whatever we
choose, "is not a correct
interpretation of the Bible.
" Conservatives thinks he should stick to
theology and not concern himself with such weighty matters.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/jamesconca/2015/06/18/pope-francis-talks-climate-change-shocks-conservatives/

Yesterday on “The Savage Nation,” Michael Savage lit into Pope Francis over his encyclical on climate change, calling him “a danger to the world” who wants to impose “global tyranny.”

“The Pope is a Marxist,” Savage said. “He is a wolf in pope’s
clothing, he is an eco-wolf in pope’s clothing, he’s a stealth Marxist
in religious garb.”

Meanwhile, to the left:

5 Key Things Pope Francis Says about Climate Change

“Pope Francis frames the reality of climate change in a way that we must consider if we are to protect our environment for future generations, future economic development, and future progress. It is a moral imperative to act as a good steward of the environment and the gifts we have been given. I thank the Pope and I hope his encyclical will ring true with all of us, including those that deny climate change both in Congress and around the world.” – Congressman Paul Tonko (NY-20)

The Influence of Tweets: Parsing First-Party and Third-Party Twitter Referrals

Once your thought-provoking, 140-characters-or-less message is dispatched, what happens next? Will the time and effort you spent pitching your editor pay off? Will you draw in readers who will actively engage with the content? Will you manage to convince readers to explore additional articles? Could you even convince users to come back over and over again? Or, is all that effort lost in the Twitterverse...

In case you haven't noticed, I've passed my self-imposed "twitter cap" of 300 accounts I follow. There will be some housecleaning. Just sayin' ...

Three Faces Of Neda

Pictures don't lie. Or do they simply mislead?. Case in point: Neda. A "true story" entwined in a hoax that recently got a new lease on life from a powerful social media operative.

54.5K followers on twitter does not guarantee accuracy in media. Nina Ansary may be a PhD, but she has perhaps inadvertently revived the old NEDA debate that revolves around photography.

Share

A lot of the original materials appearing in articles on websites have "aged out" or been taken down and are no longer available, include a very compelling AP article that suggested a man who claimed to have been Neda's boyfriend (but never actually was) concocted the entire tale. And another (still existing as of June 2015) that says the entire Neda incident is "15% likely true, 85% likely hoax or staged."   Like the mystery surrounding the death of Shakti Bhatt, there are some truths that may never be told.

Crossing Lines

Real-life reporters have no Superman.
I have selected two very different stories for you.

A lot people think it's not very difficult to be a journalist, reporter or blogger. Think again.

In her article French Journalists Say Harassment Part of the Job, Womens eNews staff reporter Hajer Naili writes:

Not only journalists but female politicians and parliamentary assistants also face sexism from their male counterparts. A Tumblr, Sinon Je Fais de la Politique (And Besides That, I am in Politics), that launched on March 8, 2014, encourages women who work in politics to speak out against the sexism and machismo they face.

The second article involves a case of media vs. media: CBC fires host/journo Evan Solomon after The Toronto Star newspapers' investigation into some "secret art deals."

One of the CBC’s rising star hosts has secretly been brokering lucrative art deals with people he has dealt with in his job on television and radio, an apparent breach of the national broadcaster’s code of ethics. Evan Solomon, 47, is the Ottawa-based host of Power and Politics on television and The House on CBC radio.…
