Colombian Celebrity Juliana López Sarrazola Faces Possible Death Sentence In China

Popular model, TV personality/presenter and member of the Las Divas football team Juliana López Sarrazola was recently detained at the Baiyun International Airport after "hallucinogens were discovered inside her laptop." Drug trafficking is a serious charge across many Asian countries. One source identifies the drug involved as "cocaine."

Juan Esteba Marín García
Word is that Sarrazola's boyfriend (ID'd by one source as "Juan Esteban Marín") is also being held in China for alleged drug trafficking. According to, the Colombian Foreign Ministry said through a statement that from the moment the news broke consular assistance has been provided to the young model and her family.

Alejandro Duque, technical director of the Football Divas, says that Sarrazola booked a trip to China to buy clothes, shoes and other products to later be re-sold in Colombia. Other reports indicate Medellin authorities are advancing an investigation because the young couple had been contacted by a man in a shopping mall days before their trip, in which they may have been "convinced" to transport drugs.

Ana Says: "Twitter just removed background wallpaper and people are furious!"

Twitter has removed wallpapers from users' home and notifications timelines on

You'll now see a stark all-white background in place of your usual customized backgrounds, when viewing your profile, notifications and main timeline.

"We’re removing background images from the home and notifications timelines on web for all users. Now, background images are only available where logged-in users will see them publicly (Tweet pages, list pages and collections pages)." a Twitter spokesperson told +Mashable Monday.

Needless to say, users are furious... I am too! I just redesigned my Twitter background over the weekend and, truthfully, did enjoy being greeted by my smiley face every morning! Fine, call me a narcissist...

What do you think of the change?

Fake Rice Crisis

As if people didn't have enough things to worry about, reports of fake rice being sold in Southeast Asia have been both dismissed as rumors/nonsense, and taken very seriously.  Rice is truly the staff of life across that section of earth, and for someone to counterfeit it is, well, unforgivable!

The fake rice is made by combining potatoes and sweet potatoes with a synthetic resin, according to the International Business Times. It's reportedly long been circulating on the market in Taiyuan, Shaanxi and appears identical to natural rice.

Health experts warn that consuming the fake grains could seriously damage the digestive system. says fake rice grains stay somewhat hard after boiling, and soup made by fake rice forms a very unappetizing plastic sheath 'that burns like plastic' when heated!

This website does not supply ownership information

HTTP connections generally don't supply any reliable identity information to the browser. That's normal. HTTP was designed to simply transmit data, not to secure the data it transmits.

"This website does not supply ownership information." ::: This simply means the connection to the website or blog is unencrypted. So, it's technically not possible to guarantee that the browser is connecting to the site which is shown in the address bar. Mozilla says this is the default text for each http://-website.

The only way for websites to "supply ownership information" would be through a secure connection and an "Extended Validation Certificate" which will cost a few hundred USD and upwards per year at the relevant certificate authorities:

If the "This website does not supply ownership information." error prevents you from loading a webpage in Windows,  use Ctrl+Shift+K (Control-Option-K on Mac) to open the web console, deactivate the css, js and security filters, and press F5 to reload the page, to show all the requests of the page. Nexct, adjust the code for each line which is showing "mixed content", i.e. change the appropriate parts of your code to use https:// or, depending on your case, protocol-relative URLs.

"People incidentally encounter the news on Facebook. They actively seek it out on Twitter." DO YOU AGREE?

I rely on a variety of sources to quench my personal (and professional) thirst for fresh news. I get a lot of mileage out of my twitter account: the 300+ twitterers I follow supply me with uber ledes to pursue in story development. But Facebook, as a source for news? Hardly! I find facebookers posting a lot of old headlines as though they were new stories. If I had to chart my news sources, here's my top 5:

  • 1 - Online newspapers, radio stations and magazines
  • 2 - Twitter
  • 3 - Drudge Report
  • 4 - Instagram
  • 5 - Sina Weibo

I realize that I'm not listing Facebook, frankly because I have gotten maybe one or two tips from the Social network over the past 6 months that I was able to turn into something more. Don't get me wrong, it is a great resource for gathering background info and making contacts, but it is not (at least not for me) a source of raw material for news. And sorry to say, Linked-In (now Spammed-In) would be at the bottom of any list I would compile.

What are YOUR thoughts?
