Google Maps Prints Text And Maps Too Small

MapQuest for years had been the go-to source when one needed to get directions to drive somewhere. But the site has been "refined" and is no longer desirable.

So, now that you are pissed off and have deleted your links to  @MapQuest (where they never heard the phrase 'if it ain't broke don't fix it) you may have discovered @googlemaps - and that's good. But what's not good: you need to be able to SEE the directions when going from Point A to Point B - and the problem is, Google, unlike old Mapquest, prints teeny-tiny text. How to fix? EASY!

  1. Go to the directions page
  2. Select "print without maps"
  3. Hit the PrtScn button
  4. Open PAINT or MSPAINT
  5. Ctrl+C
  6. Cut Paste Trim
  7. Save File
  8. PRINT that file

Now you will have larger, easier to read text for your trip!

Sometimes, you can enact a fix via your browser. In IE10, go to File (on Menu bar), Page Set-up, then uncheck the box next to "Enable Shrink to Fit" - if you are using Mozilla, check this page. (You may still have to use my screen-copy-print method, but the printed text will be easy to read while driving!)

NY Governor Announces $6.4 Million for Sexual Assault Prevention and Assistance Providers

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has signed multiple pieces of legislation designed to protect and further women’s equality in New York State. The new laws will help achieve pay equity, strengthen human trafficking laws and protections for domestic violence victims and end pregnancy discrimination in all workplaces.

The Governor also announced that New York State has allocated a total of $6.4 million for Sexual Assault Prevention and Assistance providers across the State. This includes $4.5 million enacted as part of the Enough is Enough legislative package to support implementation of this new campus sexual assault legislation by providing prevention, as well as $1 million to be administered by the Department of Health and $900,000 to be administered by the Office of Victim Services.

“This State has a legacy of leading the way in advancing equal rights – and today, we are making New York a model of equality for women,” said Governor Cuomo.

The State of Social Media: Autumn '15

It's that blogging time of year. Early October through the 1st of the New Year has traditionally been the season of the blogger. In celebration of all things blog, I dedicate this post. It's very early Saturday afternoon, there's a little crispness in the air, but the weatherfolk are saying by Monday, we'll be basking in 70-degree temperatures again. A gentle reminder of the summer that was, nature promising nice days like this will come again sometime next year. My coffee pot has just begun perking, so let's get down to business.

Social media. It's all about COMMUNITY. It's built on a foundation made of old BBS services, CompuServe accounts and Instant Messenger posts. In late 2015, blogging is still with us, just not on the same level it was, say back in 2005. For one thing, all of the popular bloggers are ten years older, ten years wiser.

A lot of what blogging was and what it meant to people as it fostered communication and triggered discussion, has changed. We have twitter and facebook to thank for that. A lot of people use facebook the way we once used CompuServe. It has become a familiar (i.e., comfortable) place. Nothing wrong with that, and certainly that aspect is the glue keeping that entire social network together. It will stay strong unless the owners go off and do something stupid to change it.

4 Little Girls: Watch It Free!

October 9 (Friday)
Film screening — 7:30 p.m., Page Hall, 135 Western Avenue,

Downtown Campus

Directed by Spike Lee (United States, 1997, 102 minutes, color)

4 Little Girls tells the story of the 15 September 1963 murder of four African-American girls in the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama, United States.  The events inspired the 1964 song "Birmingham Sunday" by Richard and Mimi Fariña. The song was used in the opening sequence of the film, as sung by Mimi's sister, Joan Baez.
4 Little Girls premiered Wednesday, June 25, 1997 at the Guild 50th Street Theatre in New York City. It was produced by 40 Acres & A Mule Filmworks, Lee's production company, and Home Box Office (HBO)
Nominated for a Best Documentary Oscar, Spike Lee’s masterpiece of
nonfiction filmmaking chronicles an American tragedy and turning point
of the Civil Rights Movement: the 1967 bombing of an African-American
church in Birmingham, Alabama. The LA Times said “Lee has made
some of the most hard-edged and unsettling American films on racism
and its effects. Yet none has been as moving as this.”

Thank you. Thank you very much. Well it is a pleasure to be here at Columbia University. It is a pleasure to be with so many of my colleagues from the New York State Legislature from the Assembly and the Senate. I call a meeting, not this many show up. This is actually a forum. We can actually pass legislation in this room. Anyone have any proposals?
