BeetsBLU for a Happy Holiday!

If a fitness tracker or a key finder is on your holiday list, check these out!
Blue Christmas?
Not this time, Elvis!

Time to act on those last-minute gifts, and it couldn't be easier!  BeetsBLU devices are very google-able and you can get one ASAP with quick-shipping provided by vendors such as!

Need a gift for the "runner" in the family or perhaps someone who needs to keep tabs on their heart and overall fitness?

I personally tested and recommend BeetsBLU products! Feel free to leave your own feedback in the comments area!

BeetsBLU is a wearable heart monitor that straps easily around the chest, with adjustable straps making it comfortable, easy to use...   track your heart rate while at the gym during a workout, cycling or any other sports activity. Compatible with any smartphone via Bluetooth Smart (Bluetooth v4.0).  It has an app called "BLE Heart Rate" for testing. It just took a few seconds to pair it with my iPhone!

The owners manual is clear and extremely easy to read. The device is quite comfortable - you'll forget you're wearing it!

BeetsBLU taps into the trend of the quantified self (self tracking using technology and numbers in an effort to be healthier, you can google more on this)...

BeetsBLU allows users to see precise numbers of heart rate over time of work out, as well as shows users a graph of their overall heart rate. It features settings which enable the user to set to fat burn, warmup, endurance training, and extreme. Users see a targeted heart rate on the app's graph, giving the user a goal to aim for.

I use this in tandem with my iPhone's health app! It's a wonderful way to not only challenge yourself by setting goals, but mapping your progress on a regular basis!

The application allows for tracking over time, with the ability to save workout data and track weight!

Now, on to gift #2:

So maybe you have a friend or family member, young or old, who habitually loses their keys or wallet (or anything else!). The ideal gift for them is a little gizmo called the Beets BLU PagerTag, a key finder which alerts you when your item is out of connection range with your cell phone (about 33 feet).

The app automatically records the last time and place it defined the location of your item. So if you left it somewhere, you know where to look first.  It too is a simple download/setup procedure. It worked on both our Android and iPhones!

I have short-term memory loss at at times (aka 'brain farts') and found the little pager to be a crisis-avoider! No longer am I late for an appointment because I've misplaced my car keys!  You will want to keep a spare battery or two on hand, as battery life is relatively short if you need to keep the device on constantly. And with Bluetooth always on, your phone’s battery life will be a bit shorter as well. I don't really consider this to be a product "con," because for someone with mild forgetfulness, it is a fair trade-off and shouldn't deter you from buying the unit yourself or giving it as a gift!

Radio Journalist Arrested, Beaten In Turkmenistan

New York,  NY (CPJ)—Turkmen authorities should release radio journalist Khudayberdy Allashov and cease retaliating against journalists with trumped-up charges, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today. Police in the Dashoguz region of northern Turkmenistan on December 3 arrested Allashov, a contributor to the U.S.-government-funded broadcaster Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Turkmen service, and charged him with possessing a banned substance. His employer learned about the incident yesterday.
According to RFE/RL’s Turkmen Service, locally known as Radio Azatlyk, police took the journalist, his mother, and his wife from his home to a nearby police station, where he was beaten and forced to confess to possessing 11 kilograms (24 pounds) of nasvay, a smokeless tobacco product, still widely consumed in Central Asia despite an official 2008 ban. Radio Azatlyk reported that a woman whom police alleged had sold Allashov the product said she had seen the journalist at the police station severely bruised and unable to hold up his head or to speak. The broadcaster said several other witnesses confirmed the woman’s account. The journalist’s wife told RFE/RL that Allashov had confessed under duress, and could face up to seven years in prison.

On Thanksgiving eve, more than 43,000 NYers outside of NYC opened the Uber app looking for a ride

New York – On Thanksgiving eve, one of the busiest drinking nights of the year, more than 43,000 New Yorkers outside of New York City opened up the Uber app looking for a ride, only to find themselves in one of the last places in the country without access to ridesharing. In cities across the world, millions use Uber to get a safe and reliable ride at the touch of a button, which is especially important during the holiday season, when drunk driving spikes and roads are more dangerous. But because Albany failed to pass common sense ridesharing legislation last session, New Yorkers traveling outside of NYC this holiday season continue to be left behind.

“This Holiday season, millions of Americans have access to a safe, reliable ride home while New Yorkers continue be left stranded by Albany dysfunction,” said Josh Mohrer, General Manager, Uber NY. “In cities and towns where Uber operates, it has proven to help reduce drunk driving incidents. Albany leaders must take action to make New York roads safer and arm people with better transportation options.”

Computer Tech support scam is back in Upstate New York

Buffalo, NY (September 30, 2016)-- Better Business Bureau of Upstate New York’s Scam Tracker is receiving reports again of scammers pretending to offer tech support to unsuspecting users.
There are three types of tech support scams. The first is a phone call from a “specialist” at a computer company. The second type is a pop up on your computer, wanting you to call a number to fix the “problem” your computer has. Ransomware is the third type. These programs lock your computer and demand payment to release your files. Be careful not to give in to this request. You could be a target again because the scammers know they have someone who will do what they say.

Miley Cyrus on 'The Voice,' working with Woody Allen and Crisis in Six Scenes

Looks like Ms. Cyrus gets the best of both worlds! Miley tells the TODAY show that mentoring artists on “The Voice” is part of her philanthropic life. The 23-year old is featured in Woody Allen's groundbreaking TV series "Crisis in Six Scenes," which spins teh tale of a middle-class suburban family in the 1960s that gets thrown into confusion by the arrival of a hippie love child (Cyrus). Crisis in Six Scenes debuts on Friday, Sept. 30 on Amazon Prime Video.

The Case Of JonBenét Ramsey

After two decades, the unsolved murder mystery of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey — which left many transfixed — reawakens via CBS’ new miniseries: The Case of: JonBenet Ramsey

Back in the late 90s I met a gentleman by the name of Lance Matthews who told me a fascinating story about time he served in a Colorado jail, and his cellmate, J.T. Colfax, a performance artist who made off with a page from the morgue containing information relating to the JonBenet Ramsey Murder Case.

Matthews stayed in touch with J.T. Colfax, created a web site of Colfax's art work, case documents, and correspondence. Matthews acted as his messenger, advocate and mouthpiece on several Ramsey case discussion forums.

At the time I was doing a cutting-edge overnight talk radio show based in Albany, New York, streamed over the Net. I also conducted IRC chats and accepted faxes and phone calls from listeners all over the world! My radio shows on the Ramsey case ran from November 11, 1998 through May 1, 1999.

The radio shows were recorded live off the Internet by ACandyRose and were converted to RealAudio where they were put on the the Webdollie Real Audio web site owned and operated by ACandyRose.  Several sites also produced transcripts of the programs. Matthews used the Webdollie web site URL as part of his hard copy promotional advertising of the radio shows but would not admit until months later that the web site was created and owned by ACandyRose. Matthews comments to ACandyRose on May 8, 1999 as to why he never gave her credit for her work: "I also thought if I credited you that some people would allow there bias and prejudice to stand in the way of reading and hearing the wonderful job you did on the RA and transcriptions."

As a reporter interested in the case (and a talk radio host looking for a strong topic off the beaten talkshow path), meeting Lance was like having manna fall from heaven. Over the course of several months Lance was able to contact and invite most of the key players and investigators of the case to be guests on my program. Lance was the greatest radio talk show producer who ever lived, IMHO! But, the series eventually ended, and, in that end, there was only speculation, with just a sliver of hope. Fast Forward to 2016!
